More and more people seem to be becoming aware of the many benefits of taking regular saunas. With such a shift to a more natural way of being, it makes sense to see saunas being utilized more often. Obviously, this form of body relaxation and detoxification has been around for centuries, but only recently has mainstream society really jumped on board in a big way.

The infrared sauna is different in that it uses infrared radiation as its method of heating. Infrared radiation has a wavelength longer than that of visible light, but shorter than radio waves. This produces radiant energy, which is the same heat you get from the sun, without any harmful ultra violet rays. The radiation hits the surface of the body and heats the user through a process called conversion. It heats your body where a traditional sauna heats the air around you.

The result is a much drier kind of heat. Some traditional saunas can make it difficult to breathe, where an infrared sauna doesn’t cause these problems. Most infrared saunas come as portable units to be used in the home. They can actually be plugged into a regular outlet and are responsible for about $10 of electricity per month.

It has been said that the heat from an infrared sauna penetrates about 1.5 inches beneath the surface of the skin. This in turn results in greater detoxification and cleansing of the body.

In fact, it’s detoxification that is the primary benefit of regular infrared sauna use. They do provide a good deal of relaxation and stress relief, but detoxifying the body is the main benefit. Some claim that they also improve circulation and can give your immune system a boost.

Whatever the benefits, the heat from an infrared sauna is definitely more tolerable and more pleasurable than that of a traditional sauna.
